Monterey, California, is a cute seaside town located about an hour and a half south of San Francisco. Surrounded by world class golf courses and made famous by John Steinbeck's writing, this once industrial sardine packing town, now hosts a bustling abundance of marine life and coastal vistas.

On this day adventure, we will take a cruise looking for whales, dolphins, and other marine life at sea. Once back on dry land, we will warm up with a quick lunch and head out down the coast looking for more sea life such as shore birds and sea otters, while scouting for a preferred sunset location. We will end the day once the light has gone.

During down time between wildlife action and locations, we will discuss topics such as wildlife and seascape shooting techniques, post processing, and any other similar topics you might have questions about.

A 7 Day Photo Adventure

July 19-25, 2020

Cost: $3400 USD (Non-refundable Deposit $1200 USD)

*Registration Deadline: May 1, 2020*

Physical Demand: Intermediate - walking short trails, under 2 miles, with various tripping hazards; photographing on a boat in motion with slipping and embarking/debarking hazards.

Summer in Maine offers so many wonderful photo opportunities. The deep evergreen forests hide beautiful ponds, massive moose, and many intimate landscapes while the rocky north Atlantic coastline provides stunning vistas and a wealth of sea based wildlife.

On this photo adventure we will travel up to Acadia National Park for a mixture of landscape and seascape locations. From there we head to Cutler to catch a boat out to a very special island where we will send time photographing puffins, razorbills, and other seabirds nesting. The timing of this adventure will put us there when the puffins are bringing back food to their growing chicks. Once we have had our fill of seabirds, we head west into the forests to look for moose, serine lakeside sunsets, and fresh forest scenes.

A 3 Day Photo Adventure

September 17-19, 2020

Cost: $1500 USD (Non-refundable Deposit $750 USD)

Physical Demand: Easy - light walking over mostly flat but uneven ground and sandy shores

Antelope Island, in the middle of the Great Salt Lake, UT, provides great wildlife and landscape photography opportunities. With the ability to find bison and pronghorn roaming the open fields, thousands of migratory shorebirds feeding in the shallow waters, and various other birds and smaller animals throughout the island will keep us on our toes.

Due to the size of the Great Salt Lake, weather often can be seen at the horizon and crates interesting elements for landscape images. We will also work a bit on create photography techniques where I will teach techniques to create impressionistic images.

Silver Falls in Fall:

A 3 Day Photo Adventure

October 10-12, 2020

Cost: $1250 USD (Non-refundable Deposit $750 USD)

Physical Demand: Intermediate - Hiking trails with some steeper sections, both uphill and down hill. Working around waterfalls and wet environments has inherent dangers of slipping, falling, or tripping. We will also be working regardless of rain or shine and wet, cold weather adds to the difficulty of this workshop.

Silver Falls State Park is a beautiful gem of the Oregon State Park system. With a wide array of waterfalls, the park includes no less than 10 waterfalls in under nine miles of trails. Even better is that the trail system is set so that visitors can access the waterfalls from various trail-heads. This means that daily hiking is actually only about four miles a day during the workshop.

With the various colors from fall foliage hanging overhead, we will explore photography of this area from multiple angles. From the traditional landscape image to the intimate landscape, macro, and abstract, we will spend as much time in the field as possible, thus the in-park accommodations. Evenings will be used to review images and discuss topics such as post-processing.
