Extend Your Adventure!
Japanese Snow Monkey Immersion
A 4 day Adventure Extender
**Limited Seats - Maximum 4 Participants**
February 17-21, 2020 (4day/5nights)
Cost: $1300 USD (Deposit $500 USD)
Physical Demand: Challenging (Total daily walking about 4-5 miles on mostly flat, well maintained trails and walk ways however there are some hills and stairs, footing will be snow and ice with slipping hazards, and exposure to freezing temperatures for extended periods of time is to be expected)
The Japanese Macaque, otherwise known as the Snow Monkey, is "THE" subject of these additional days. With several troops in the valley, there are many, many monkeys present, making the park an ideal area to observe all forms of behavior. The most famous of those behaviors is bathing in the hot springs. This behavior has only been observed in this one location even as the Japanese Macaque inhabits areas across Japan.
While the area is called a park, there are no fences keeping the monkeys in the area and only a handful to help keep visitors safe along parts of the pathways. The monkeys are free to come and go as they please and will, on occasion, interact with visitors. Before entering the park, we will discuss appropriate behavior when around the monkeys to ensure proper wildlife photography ethics are being maintained and to limit the impact our presence has on the animals.
The length of the adventure extension was chosen to help us photograph a wide variety of behaviors and weather.
Lunch will be hosted at Enza Cafe each day, as they have a variety of wonderful food for many palates, and they are located just outside the park boundary giving us the least amount of time away from shooting.
Yamanouchi is a historic onsen village meaning there are a wide variety of hot springs available for those who would like to warm up in the traditional fashion after a long day in the cold.
