Costa Rica’s rainforests are alive with color, texture, and movement—making them one of the world’s most dynamic environments for macro photography. During this 6-day, 5-night Costa Rica macro photography workshop, we travel through four distinct rainforest locations, each selected for its access to vibrant amphibians, cryptic reptiles, jewel-toned insects, spiders, and nocturnal micro-wildlife. This multi-lodge itinerary exposes you to a wide range of macro photography habitats, offering more diversity than a single-location tour. Each day brings a blend of natural-habitat macro walks, controlled frog and reptile photography setups, and immersive night macro photography sessions, allowing you to create a well-rounded and compelling portfolio of rainforest species.
Led by Tamron Ambassador Alyce Bender and OM SYSTEM Ambassador Lee Hoy, this macro-focused expedition provides expert instruction in rainforest macro techniques, off-camera flash, creative lighting, subject approach, and ethical fieldcraft. With a small group of 4–8 photographers, you’ll benefit from personalized macro coaching, hands-on lighting support, and real-time guidance throughout a variety of shooting conditions. Whether you’re new to macro wildlife photography or refining advanced skills, this workshop offers a comprehensive, instructor-guided experience in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth—and is ideal for photographers seeking a high-quality Costa Rica macro tour that blends education, adventure, and exceptional access to rainforest micro-wildlife.
